These nations' only meeting in a world level major competition (Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix, Volleyball Nations League and Grand Champions Cup) came in the 2018 World Championship second round in Osaka, where Bulgaria beat Azerbaijan in straight sets. Polina Rahimova (Azerbaijan) scored a match-high 16 points.
